Woot!

For those of you who know me some-what well, you know about Woot.com.  I was introduced to Woot by a good friend in Orlando, Mahn Quach.  Those of you who worked with in the past at the Company Formerly Known As Cendant, the name should sound familiar.  Woot offers one deal every day.  When it is gone, it is gone.  They most interesting thing about the site is the culture.  I joined the site last year when there were a scant 250K people.  Now they are well over 750K.  The blog and posts are usually a great mix of insightful and stupid.  A lot of yen for your yang.

Woot also offers a weekday podcast, which varies in quality.  It is usually pretty good.  Yesterday was Annual Talk Like A Pirate Day, a phenomenon I learned about on Woot.  The podcast was a language lesson on how to talk like a pirate.  I will dictate what it said, and then you can click here to listen to it.

Hello, and welcome to Pirate Speech the easy way a beginners introduction to pirate, focusing on practical vocabulary and pronunciation.

During your first lesson you’ll learn some helpful basic phrases you might use in everyday life, among the thieves, cutthroats and rapists you’ll likely to meet on the high seas.

You’ll hear each phrase in standard English first, then in pirate.  Again in standard English, then once more in pirate.

You’ll find it is helpful to say the pirate translation aloud along with the recording to improve your pronunciation.

Let’s begin.  Lesson One: Small Talk

Standard English – Pardon Me

Pirate – Yarrgh!

Pirate — Ey!!  It’s driv’n me nuts

Very good!  When you are ready, proceed to lesson two: Violent Acts and Threats

Good stuff!

Woot also has a t-shirt site, shirt.woot.com.  I have purchase several shirts.  They also offer a weekly contest for people to submit designs.  The top two or three get to have the shirt made and sold on woot.  They will always offer at least 500 shirts.  Then, after the day has passed, they set up a “friends” site so you can purchase more if you wish.

Finally, there is wine.woot.com.  I am not so much into this site, though it has it’s moments.  If you are oenologist you might enjoy the site.

Why all the Woot talk?  Because something big is supposed to happened tonight, Midnight central time on Woot.  Now, it is entirely possible that they are just jerking us around.  There may be nothing.  There may be something.  There may be a Badger On Crack.  Who knows.  Let’s wait and find out.

And so it goes
